📲 Your Ultimate Utila Travel Guide (Updated April 2026)
Getting to Utila Just Got Easier. Here’s What You Need to Know.
Whether you’re coming for the reef, real estate opportunities, or a full reset, Utila delivers. This updated travel guide helps you land smoothly and start your island time without stress.
⚠️ U.S. Airport Delays. Plan Ahead.
If your route connects through the U.S., expect longer security lines. Ongoing TSA staffing shortages are impacting major hubs.
What this means for you:
- Arrive 2.5 to 3 hours early for international flights
- Monitor your airline app for gate changes and delays
- Book earlier flights when possible to avoid cascading delays
Airports like Miami International Airport, George Bush Intercontinental Airport, and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport are seeing the most congestion.
⏱️ Pro Tip
Build buffer time into your travel day. A little extra planning on the front end keeps your arrival in Utila smooth and stress-free.
🔗 Check Wait Times Before You Go
Use the TSA tracker to see real-time security wait times across U.S. airports. It helps you decide how early to arrive and what to expect. Although it looks like there’s a lot of hype and not ridiculous delays. Comment below on your experiences to inform other travellers please.

Updated April 8, 2026
✈️ Canadians… This Is BIG.
Air Canada Now Flying to Roatan! This is the moment we’ve been waiting for. Air Canada is now flying into Roatán. Getting to Utila just became faster, easier, and way more accessible.

What this means for you:
- Direct from Toronto or Montreal. Less airport stress.
- Shorter travel days. More time in the sea.
- Better pricing options across seasons.
- Simple trip planning for vacations, snowbird stays, and property tours.
You can leave the cold and be snorkeling the reef in hours, not days.
For Canadians looking at a second home, an investment, or a lifestyle shift, this changes everything. The Bay Islands just got a whole lot closer.
Most travelers fly into Roatán and take the ferry or a quick 15 min. charter flight to Utila. Try to land before 1:00 PM to make the 2:00 PM ferry. The ferry leaves at 2:15pm on Saturdays, giving you an extra 15 minutes! See ferry schedule below.
✈️ International Flights to San Pedro Sula (SAP) – Updated April 8, 2026
San Pedro Sula (SAP – Ramón Villeda Morales) is a major hub. Travelers typically transfer to La Ceiba by bus, taxi, or local flight, then take the ferry to Utila. Although flights may be cheaper, remember that you’re two hops away from Utila. And keep in mind that the Utila airport isn’t in service at the moment.

⚠️ Utila’s airport is still not in commercial use—it has potholes and is currently only serviced by small charter flights (3–5 passengers).
Book with Janine Jackson via WhatsApp at +504 9692-1615 if you need a charter.
2. ✍️ Complete the Online Customs Form

Honduras now requires all travelers to submit a digital customs form before entering the country. Paper forms are no longer accepted, even if handed out by airline staff. Scan or click on the QR code here, to access the online customs form.
We just travelled last week from Madrid, Spain, and they wouldn’t let us check in until we showed her the QR code. The wifi was spotty, so it was a nightmare to do that at the airport with all our luggage and line-ups. So do yourself a favor and fill it out before you get to the airport.
📅 The form must be completed within 5 days of arrival.
🔗 Fill it out here: Online Customs Form
💡 Tips for smoother submission:
-
Screenshot your QR code once submitted—airport Wi-Fi can be unreliable. Can’t connect? Ask someone in the “residents & nationals only” line to share their hotspot. People are super friendly here, so someone will help you!
-
Europeans: Some travelers need to use a VPN to access the site.
-
If the form will not submit, try making your destination address more specific, or it could be that you’re trying to access the form more than 5 days from your travel date.
Need more help? Use the dropdown at the top center, to change the language to “English” and format to “en_US”.

Airport Name Tip: They now list city names in the airport field (e.g., Roatán = Juan Manuel Galvez), so it’s easier to find your arrival airport.

⚠️ Error Messages? Or no message? Sometimes it’s because of the destination address isn’t specific enough. Try “Hotel Name, Street Name, Utila”.
3. 🚢 Utila Ferry Schedule (Roatán–Utila)
There are now two ferry options between Roatán and Utila:
🚢 Honduras Dream Ferries
**NEW** Roatán → Utila: Departs 2:15 PM on Saturdays, arrives around 3:15 PM.
- Roatán → Utila: Departs 2:00 PM Sunday to Friday, arrives around 3:00 PM.
- Book online for a 10% discount and screenshot your confirmation.
I missed the ferry and had to overnight in Roatan, so I took the ferry at 6:30am from Roatan to La Ceiba, and then the 9:00am ferry from La Ceiba to Utila. It got me there 5 hours earlier than the direct ferry, and I was so happy to do that! Consider this option if you’ve only got a week’s vacation and every Utila minute counts!!!

🚢 Galaxy Wave Ferry (NEW Weekend Route)
- Friday 9:45am (Utila → Roatán) and Sunday 12:30pm (Roatán → Utila)
- Friday 8:30am (La Ceiba → Utila) and Sunday 2:00pm (Utila → La Ceiba)
-
📍 Departs next to the Dream Ferries dock in Roatán
-
🎫 Tickets: Book online or at the dock; in Utila, go to the small office west of the Municipal Dock (where The Beach Lounge used to be).

5. ✈️ Yellow Fever Vaccination Check
A few years ago, our family vacation to Panama was nearly derailed before it even began.
We were packed, ready, and excited—but we were almost not allowed to board our flight from Honduras. The reason? We didn’t have our Yellow Fever vaccination.
🌍 If You’re Traveling to Panama or Beyond, Take Note:
If your travels include Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, any South American country, or many parts of Africa, you’ll need to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccination—and it must be at least 10 days old before your departure from Honduras.
This requirement is enforced for both Honduran citizens and international travelers entering or exiting the country.

✅ What You Should Do Before You Travel
-
Get your Yellow Fever vaccine well in advance
-
Ensure your vaccination card is valid and accessible
-
Confirm re-entry rules for your home country
-
Keep copies (digital and physical) with your travel documents
