1. Measles Vaccination

Starting Monday July 7, 2025 Honduras announced they would require proof of the measles (MMR – Measles, Mumps & Rubella) vaccination when entering the country, or a negative test. However, as of yesterday, the requirement for foreigners to provide proof of a measle’s vaccination upon entering Honduras has been WAIVED!

This only applies to Honduran children from 12 months to 10 years old, who are travelling to affected countries. The list of countries will be updated weekly.

2. ✍️ Complete the Online Customs Form

Honduras requires all travelers to complete an online customs form before arrival—paper forms are no longer accepted, even if handed out by airlines. Completing it ahead of time will make your airport experience much smoother!

📅 Important: The form can only be filled out within five days of travel—if you’re trying earlier, it won’t go through. ⚠️ Error Messages? Cryptic messages usually just mean you’re trying too early.

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Screenshot your QR code after submission—Wi-Fi can be sketchy at the airport.

  • Europeans: Some report needing a VPN to access the form.

  • Can’t connect? Ask someone in the “residents & nationals only” line to share their hotspot. People are super friendly here, so someone will help you!

Need more help? Use the dropdown at the top center, to change the language to “English” and format to “en_US”.

Airport Name Tip: They now list city names in the airport field (e.g., Roatán = Juan Manuel Galvez), so it’s easier to find your arrival airport.

⚠️ Error Messages? Or no message, but it won’t go through? Sometimes it’s because of the destination address isn’t specific enough.

4. 🚢 Utila Ferry Schedule (Roatán–Utila)

Be sure to check out the modified Utila Carnival ferry schedule in Point #6!

There are now two ferry options between Roatán and Utila:

🚢 Honduras Dream Ferries

**NEW** Roatán → Utila: Departs 2:15 PM on Saturdays, arrives around 3:15 PM.

  • Book online for a 10% discount and screenshot your confirmation.

I took the ferry at 6:30am from Roatan to La Ceiba, and then the 9:00am ferry from La Ceiba to Utila. It got me there 5 hours earlier than the direct ferry, and I was so happy to do that! Consider this option if you’ve only got a week’s vacation and every Utila minute counts!!!

6. ✈️ Yellow Fever Vaccination Check

A few years ago, our family vacation to Panama was nearly derailed before it even began.
We were packed, ready, and excited—but we were almost not allowed to board our flight from Honduras. The reason? We didn’t have our Yellow Fever vaccination.

🌍 If You’re Traveling to Panama or Beyond, Take Note:

If your travels include Panama, Trinidad & Tobago, any South American country, or many parts of Africa, you’ll need to show proof of Yellow Fever vaccination—and it must be at least 10 days old before your departure from Honduras.

This requirement is enforced for both Honduran citizens and international travelers entering or exiting the country.

🌎 Countries That Require Yellow Fever Vaccination:

South America:
Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Venezuela

Africa:
Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, and more

And yes—Panama and Trinidad & Tobago also require proof of vaccination.

✅ What You Should Do Before You Travel

  • Get your Yellow Fever vaccine well in advance

  • Ensure your vaccination card is valid and accessible

  • Confirm re-entry rules for your home country

  • Keep copies (digital and physical) with your travel documents

📞 For official guidance within Honduras, contact INM at 2232-7800

Please note: This does not apply to those over 60 years old! Age has it’s benefits!

This was a valuable lesson for us—and one that could save you major stress.
Travel requirements vary by country and are updated often, especially regarding public health.
Taking a few extra minutes to confirm what’s needed for your destination can make all the difference between a smooth takeoff and a missed trip.

7. 🏫 Mask-Wearing May be Required

Based on the official statement from the Secretaría de Salud de Honduras, here’s a translated summary of the Official Communication dated July 24, 2025:

In response to a national increase in respiratory illnesses—such as influenza, pneumonia, and COVID-19, including the detection of the new Omicron sub-lineage XFG9—Honduras’ Ministry of Health issued new preventive measures on July 24, 2025.

As part of the announcement:

📌 All public and private educational institutions were included in the updated list of places where mask-wearing is mandatory, especially in environments where physical distancing is limited or ventilation is poor.

🎓 As a result, schools briefly closed for a day, for online classes, shifting to online learning to implement these new measures and ensure proper compliance. Schools resumed in-person classes today, with enhanced safety procedures.

Key Highlights from the Official Health Bulletin:

😷 Mandatory mask use in high-risk spaces, including:

  • Airports, borders, public transport – While an updated communication specified that mask use is mandatory for staff only in airports and other transit hubs, enforcement appears to vary. For example, several travelers departing from Roatán on Sunday reported that airport staff were not wearing masks. This inconsistency highlights the importance of staying personally prepared just in case.
  • Churches, cinemas, gyms, shopping centers
  • Hospitals, clinics, dental offices, and all health service providers
  • All schools and educational institutions

🧼 Continued emphasis on handwashing and use of hand sanitizer
💉 Encouragement for the public to complete COVID-19 vaccination
🩺 Prompt medical consultation if respiratory symptoms appear

These measures aim to reduce the spread of illness and protect vulnerable groups as the country faces the latest wave of seasonal and viral infections. Travelers, educators, and families are encouraged to stay informed and follow all current public health guidance.

📞 For more details, contact the Honduran Ministry of Health or your local health center.

It seems that these measures are currently not being enforced. Just be aware that they may drop or enforce these measures at any time, and it’s always best to be prepared, just in case.
