Recovery Update!

If you have read the last blog post, you know that recently some wee wee ants took up residence in the yard and they also attacked the leaves of the trees in the yard. And to follow up on that, its time to see how well they are recovering!

Lets start with the tree in front of the office. Just recently found out it’s a tree called Tabernaemontana divaricata, also known as crape jasmine, which is much easier to pronounce so we will stick with that name.

Already its flowers are starting to grow and bloom, just last week it only had a couple buds and now it has a couple dozen buds and two blooming flowers!

I can say that I am impressed by the recovery it has shown so far.

You can also notice that more leaves are present on its branches, it is still pretty bare but from my view of it from inside the office, it looks 10 times better than it did last week.

Bit of a weird angle for that first photo but I think that’s the best way to show how many more leaves it has. In the other photos its hard to distinguish the leaves with all the other plants behind it. Nonetheless, a well done to the Crape Jasmine for getting this far in only a week!

Now onto the Hibiscus flower bush! Same as the Crape Jasmine, where last week it had barely any flowers, now its sporting a healthy bunch of them!

If you head back to the previous blog post it will be very evident how much it has improved. When I was taking the pictures I was very surprised at how many more flowers it has already!

And after a closer look, it seems that its leaves are also making a speedy comeback much like its flowers!

From this angle it seems like the wee wee attack never happened in the first place!

And so far the wee wees have backed off from stripping anymore trees or bushes.

Speaking of, I went to check out the ant hill I had discovered and the residents were pretty active this morning!

I couldn’t quite make out the trail and where it led to with all the dead leaves on the ground, but I didn’t see them hauling any leaves back to the hill so I can assume they weren’t attacking any other trees, hopefully!

That’s it for this update. Next week another update on their progress!
