Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a lovely holiday season!
And to start off the new year, with travelling during this covid pandemic being so challenging, we want you to be prepared to ensure you’re allowed on the plane to get to your destination, AND now, ensuring that you’re able to return back home.
Today, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the USA, just announced that a negative covid test is required to enter the USA, whether returning home from travelling, or travelling to the USA. There’s a list of the covid testing centers in Roatan, our neighboring island, that Trish Symons has created for your assistance. We are in the process of finding out where you can get the tests here in Utila. Message us for the list, we will have it on our website here shortly, but we wanted to get this post out to you asap.
This announcement follows Canada’s recent press release on January 6, 2021, stating that beginning midnight Jan 7th, 2021, regardless of citizenship, all travellers entering Canada must show proof of a negative test whether it’s a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test or a negative LAMP (loop-mediated isothermal amplication) test taken within 72 hours of travel. And even with proof of negative test results, Canadians are still required to complete a mandatory 14 day quarantine.
And to enter Honduras, you are still required to have a negative covid test taken 72 hours prior to your departure. And you need to fill out the Honduran Immigration pre-check in form here.
Note that in the upper right corner of the check-in page, there’s a flag indicating the language desired. Click there to change to english. Also make sure that your passport has 6 months of validity on it before it expires, otherwise airlines will not let you fly to Honduras.
I’d also like to solicit your feedback to one Canadian politician who said “New Brunswickers who ignore public health advice and go on unnecessary trips are ‘selfish’ and don’t deserve to be called citizens.” What do you think about his comment?
And speaking of travelling, CM airlines will begin flights to Utila again. And many airlines in the USA are requesting that you arrive at the airport five hours before your flight, due to the increased processing required.
With the new variants of the Covid, positive cases are increasing worldwide so please be careful and stay safe and safe travels!
